Information about Britania Group of Islands

The "Britania Group of Islands" is a cluster of islands located in San Agustin, Surigao del Sur. It has become one of the province's most famous tourist attractions because of its powdery, white-sand beaches and clear turquoise waters. The island group's name is taken from the barangay where it belongs, Barangay Britania, which is derived from the Greek form "Brettania" meaning "a collection of islands with individual names".

Most tours operating in the Britania Group of Islands visit at least four islands from the entire group. The first stop is usually Boslon Island, the largest among all of the islands. It features a long stretch of fine white sand beach, limestone cliffs, and formations reminiscent of those found in El Nido, Palawan. It is marked by a cross and a statue of the Virgin Mary on one side.

Naked Island is the next stopover. The island is called such because it is basically just a sand bar with no vegetation at all. For those who enjoy a less crowded beach and go for a tan, this is the perfect place to spend more time because most visitors would only stay to take pictures in fear of getting sunburned as there is no shade to protect them.

Hagonoy Island, on the other hand, is famous for its coconut and talisay trees dotting the entire island. It is an ideal place for swimming because the waters are very calm and clear. The last stop is usually Hiyor-Hiyoran Island, famed for its mushroom shape with a pocket of beach on one of its sides. However, it is not very ideal for swimming because of the abundant presence of sea urchins and corals in the area.

Best time to visit

This group of islands in Surigao del Sur is best visited during the summer months, from March to May.
