Many long-distance tours carry a little bit of petrol with them in jerrycans so that even if they happen to run out of fuel in the middle of the road, they always have a little extra as a backup plan. Calculate the mileage of the motorcycle, and refill it when there is 1/4 fuel left in the bank. Theft and robbery

The laws and regulations in the Philippines are very strict and therefore incidences of theft and robbery are very few and far in between, but that does not mean that you can be nonchalant about the risk of having a motorcycle stolen. Always make sure to keep the motorcycle parked in a well-lit area when you are putting up for the night, and when you stop for breaks, keep the motorcycle parked in such a location where you can keep an eye on it at all times. It is a good idea to use a couple of chains and a padlock to lock up the Hills to a strong pillar or a post during the night. You must also consider installing anti-theft mechanism on the motorcycle just for peace of mind, if nothing else.

Mechanical problems

Like we said earlier, take the motorcycle to a mechanic and have it properly serviced and check for pre-emptive mechanical problems so that you don't have to deal with them during the ride. If you know of any pre-existing problems on your motorcycle, discuss that with the mechanic and have it repaired before it becomes a huge headache for you. After motorcycle is in no condition to go on a long trip, consider hiring different machine that is in a better condition than your own motorcycle. You can find many places in the Philippines at rent out motorcycles on a daily basis or even on a weekly basis.

In some places you might find people jaywalking and crossing the road even when there are no zebra crossings, which means you need to be completely aware of everything that is happening around you. Keep an eye out for people trying to cross the road and also for other vehicles that might be trying to tailgate you. Situational awareness is the key to staying safe while going on a long-distance road trip. Never make the mistake of removing the real view mirrors on the motorcycle because they are very crucial in letting you know about other vehicles approaching you from behind at high speeds, so that you can take evasive actions as safely as possible. Follow the speed limits as indicated on the side of the road. In the Philippines the maximum speed limit while riding inner city is 30 to 40 kilometres depending on the area you are riding in.
