You will be picked up from any hotel or accommodation within Bacolod and your first stop will be the famous The Ruins. Probably the most photographed landmark in the area, The Ruins is often regarded to as the “Taj Mahal of Negros” as this former Italian-inspired mansion was built by a sugar baron as a testament of love for his wife. Actually situated in the neighboring city of Talisay, The Ruins was burned down during the war and what now remains is its skeletal frame surrounded by manicured gardens.
From here, the next stop is the San Sebastian Cathedral or more popularly known as the Bacolod Cathedral. Built in the 19th century, the cathedral is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod. Another historical landmark is next on the itinerary, the Pope John Paul II Tower. This seven-storey building was built in honor of the well-beloved pope who visited the city in 1981, and stands on the same grounds where he celebrated Holy Mass to a crowd of almost a million people. You will then visit the Bacolod Public Plaza, officially called as the Plaza del 6 de Noviembre marking the day when Spanish rulers surrendered Negros Island to the revolutionaries. It is a trapezoidal park that features fountains, lush greens, and a central gazebo.
Frolic in the vast lawns of the New Government Center, Capitol Park and Lagoon, and Bacolod Welcome Park, testaments of the government’s efforts of keeping Bacolod a family-friendly, green city. The latter features the Las Vegas-inspired Welcome Bacolod Marker as well. You will then visit Balay Negrense, an ancestral heritage house turned into a museum.
No visit in Bacolod will be complete without a taste of its famous Chicken Inasal, and Manokan Country is where you’ll have the most authentic flavors the locals and tourists have come to love. Capping off the tour is shopping time at the town’s Pasalubong Centers.
