Description
Learn about the rich history of Bacolod while sightseeing in this shared half-day tour. This tour is ideal for travelers wanting to tour some prime landmarks in half a day. This tour is inclusive of private car transfers, primary entrance fees, complimentary chicken inasal lunch, and services of a guide.
You will be picked up at any Bacolod hotel or place of lodging, and your first stop will be the renowned The Ruins. The Ruins is probably the most photographed place in the area. It is often called the "Taj Mahal of Negros" because a sugar baron built this former Italian-style mansion as a sign of his love for his wife. The Ruins was actually in the nearby city of Talisay. It was burned down during the war, and now all that's left is its remnants, which is surrounded by well-kept gardens.
From here, the next stop is the Bacolod Cathedral, which is also called the San Sebastian Cathedral. The cathedral, which was built in the 1800s, is where the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacolod is based. The Pope John Paul II Tower, which is also a historical site, is the next stop. This seven-storey building was made in honor of the well-liked pope who visited the city in 1981. It stands on the same ground where he held Holy Mass for almost a million people.
Then you will go to the Bacolod Public Plaza, which is officially called the Plaza del 6 de Noviembre. This is the date that the Spanish rulers gave Negros Island to the rebels. It is a trapezoidal park with fountains, green grass, and a gazebo in the middle.
Enjoy the big lawns of the New Government Center, Capitol Park and Lagoon, and Bacolod Welcome Park, which show how hard the government works to keep Bacolod a family-friendly, green city. The Las Vegas-style Welcome to Bacolod Marker is also on the second one.
You can't go to Bacolod without trying its famous Chicken Inasal, and Manokan Country is where both locals and travelers go to get the most authentic flavors. The tour ends with time to shop at the town's Pasalubong Centers.
