Discover the historic and iconic landmarks of Mactan Island, Cebu with this private half-day trip. Taking just half a day to complete, this tour is perfect for families and group of friends who want to get a deeper insight into the island’s roots in the comfort of an air-conditioned vehicle.
After being picked up from your hotel in Cebu City or Mactan, you will head to Lapu-Lapu City to visit the historical Magellan’s Shrine and Lapu-Lapu Monument. Magellan’s Shrine, also referred to as “Liberty Shrine,” is an obelisk built during the Spanish colonial period in honor of the Portuguese explorer, Ferdinand Magellan, who introduced Catholicism in the country. Despite being defaced during American rule, this shrine can still be seen today.
Together with Magellan’s Shrine, the Lapu-Lapu Monument serves as an important remembrance to the Battle of Mactan where native chieftain Lapu-Lapu opposed the Spanish forces led by Ferdinand Magellan. Lapu-Lapu is honored as the first Philippine national hero who resisted foreign rule.
From the monument, you will be driven to Alegre Guitar Factory, a family-run enterprise that has been in business for decades. Here you will see the intricate process of how their skilled craftsmen build world-class guitars – from choosing the material and shaping the wood to fastening the last piece that completes the musical instrument. You will also see an array of finished products, which are ready to be sold if you fancy having one.
For an additional fee, you can also opt to visit the highly-popular 10,000 Roses Cafe. It has become a popular attraction in Cebu, primarily for its thousands of paper roses that are lighted up at night. Enjoy the great view of the ocean from their café or buy some rose-themed products at their souvenir shop.
