Escape to the serene mountainsides of Bataan on this private guided day hike to Tarak Ridge and rolling grasslands and woodlands. This private day hike will reward you with a phenomenal view of Bataan, as well as a glimpse of Corregidor and Manila Bay.

Situated on the west face of  Mt. Mariveles, the highest mountain in Bataan, Tarak Ridge towers at 1,006 meters above sea level. The ridge got its name from the combination of  ‘Tabak’ (hunting knife) and ‘Tarik’ (steep). Among the other peaks of Mt. Mariveles, it is Tarak Ridge’s craggy landscape, steep cliffs, and rocky terrain that captivated the hearts of hikers and adventurers the most.

Your private tour will start once you are picked up from Metro Manila and brought to the town of Mariveles where your Bataan adventure begins. Rated a moderate to difficult climb, you can reach Tarak Ridge in five to six hours. The trail comprises of grassy rolling hills and a lush forest which is why Tarak Ridge is a well-loved hiking destination in the Philippines.

Begin your hike at a comfortable pace and savor the trail as it cuts through dense grasslands. This part of the hike should take you approximately three hours, at the end of which you will hear the gurgling waters of the Papaya River. Take a breather by the riverside and replenish your water supply before you press forward.

You will now start a steady ascent through the forest trail. This where the excitement begins, the trail will gradually become steeper and more challenging. Hold on to low-hanging branches and roots to help you with your assault. Your guide will be by your side the whole way, feel free to ask them for assistance.

After about an hour and a half, you will soon find yourself standing on Tarak Ridge and overlooking the dramatic vista of Bataan, with Corregidor and Manila Bay in the distance. Take a moment to feel the gusts of wind from the South China Sea brush away your exhaustion. Enjoy your lunch with a stunning view.

Before you start heading back, ask your guide to take photos of you as a remembrance of this feat. Once you arrive at the jump-off point, freshen up. Sit back and relax as you are driven back to Manila for dinner, and finally dropped off at your hotel.
