Come along and enjoy a day tour with the ocean’s gentle giants and a mesmerizing waterfall in Cebu. Taking two of the best things that Oslob can offer, this tour lets you have a close look at the famous whale sharks then takes you to a popular waterfall nearby—perfect for anyone who loves to explore nature.
After an early morning pickup from your Cebu or Mactan hotel, you will travel to Brgy. Tan-awan in Oslob, a fourth-class municipality located about three hours south of Cebu City. You will be given a short briefing about the whale shark watching activity upon arrival. After that, you will board small paddleboats to take you to where the whale sharks can be viewed.
The whale sharks, known in Filipino as “butanding” or “tuki” in the local dialect, are docile filter feeders. They are generally harmless and are known not to attack humans, which means there’s no reason for you to fear them despite their enormous size.
Depending on your booking, you can either view these magnificent sea creatures from the comforts of the paddleboat or go down into the water with your snorkel to get a closer look while they feed on krill. If you choose the latter, make sure you follow the rules given during orientation.
After spending time with the whale sharks, you will travel to Tumalog Falls, located about 15 to 20 minutes away from the whale shark watching area. The falls is famous for its unique shape. The water that flows from above spreads wider and wider as it cascades down mushroom-shaped rock formations, and ultimately drops to a pool below.
Tumalog Falls is high and is surrounded by lush vegetation, making the surrounding area comfortably cool. You can swim in the relatively shallow turquoise-colored pool, or you can admire its beauty from a distance while taking photos.
From Tumalog Falls, you will make your way back to Cebu City. Along the way, you will have a running tour of some known tourist destinations in the area: the historical Baluarte and Cuartel, the centuries-old Boljoon church, and the Carcar Shoe Expo.
Baluarte and Cuartel, both in Oslob, are considered heritage sites. Baluarte was a watchtower that served as a lookout for Moro raiders, while Cuartel, an unfinished structure, was meant to be a barracks for Spanish soldiers.
Boljoon Church, built in 1783, is a picturesque place of worship standing near the shores of Boljoon, a picture-postcard town. It is considered a National Cultural Treasure and a National Historical Landmark.
The Carcar Shoe Expo is a place where you can find affordable but good-quality footwear made by the locals. This place is also home to the largest piece of footwear on this side of the country, which conveniently provides the perfect background for those selfies.
