Aurora Park

Aurora Park is at the center of the Ilocos region surrounded by the St. William Cathedral Church, Laoag City Hall, Marcos Hall of Justice, Ilocos Norte Provincial Capitol and the Sinking Bell Tower.

The plaza has been known as Plaza Alfonso XII ever since the Spanish King used it for public events. Across the fountain on the Plaza, you will find an obelisk erected using 1881, dedicated to the Spanish King Alfonso XII for terminating the Tobacco Monopoly.

Obelisks, such as the one that still stands today, have continuously remained standing through the passing of time. The plaza is now called the Aurora Park.

Even though its foundation dates back to the late 1500's, the Laoag Community has strong roots dating back to the late 16th Century. It is the spot where the early residents of Manila to be specific settled after missionaries moved the center from Ermita Hill to the plaza.
