Information about Dumaguete Campanario
Dumaguete Campanario
If you have a love for exploring places and discovering historical structures, then go to Dumaguete and visit the oldest watchtower in Negros Oriental, the Dumaguete Campanario.
The exterior walls are made of corals that are like bricks, while inside are layers of centimeter-sized corals mixed with sand. There is a plaque with the official seal for Dumaguete City there, where you can read the history of this watch tower.
There are other watch towers also in various places around the region, although this one was built rather late during the time of the Spaniards. It's not enough to just take pictures of this incredible historical structure. Taking into account how and why it was built helps you gain a bigger understanding of the province.
How to get there
Aside from joining a guided tour, you can ride a jeepney or tricycle from Dumaguete City Center. Ask the driver to drop you off in front of the public plaza.
Best time to visit
You can visit this historic site anytime as this is an all-year round attraction.
