Information about Headless Monument
Headless Monument
In front of the Legazpi Post Office in Albay is the Headless Monument, which was erected to honor Filipino casualties of World War II. The inspiration for the statue is the headless body that laborers found in the port of Barangay Sabang at the end of the war. The body was wearing a soldier’s uniform, and it is believed that it belonged to someone who was executed by the Japanese. The body was later given a proper burial.
The monument was originally built where the remains were found, but it was later moved to its present location.
