The Philippines’ first and only flower terraces, the Terrazas de Flores, is a botanical garden that
is decorated with colorful flowers that are meticulously planted in rows. Every row of flower
species is arranged on a slope, which forms flower terraces. The flower garden has more than
120 species of plants and flowers.
The botanical garden is likened to Banawe Rice Terraces for its rice terraces-like features.
Location
Terrazas de Flores’ exact location is in Sitio Tigib, Malubog, Cebu City. The place is a one-
hectare botanical garden on a mountain slope, featuring a wide array of plants. The popular
destination is around 30 minutes far from the city center.
History
The botanical garden spent eight years in the making and finally opened its doors to the public
last October 1, 2016. The owner, Yuri Barrameda, introduced the garden with 127 species of
blooms. Barrameda built the terraces of flowers as a testament of love for his three children, as
he thought a bouquet of flowers were not enough.
Back in 2007, the terraces were just another hill on a mountainside. Two years later, Barrameda
developed the area with the help of green-thumbed residents of Barangay Malubog. The
terraces are natural and constructed of interlocking stones, which could withstand hard rains. It
also prevents soil erosion.
