Upon arriving at the dive center, your instructor will give you a brief rundown of the course and what to expect. One does not have to be “advanced” to take the Advanced Open Water Course. It is titled as such because the course is designed to advance one’s diving knowledge and skills.

Of the five specialty open water dives that are included in the course, the Deep Dive and Navigation Dive are mandatory.

These required dives will equip the divers with knowledge and skills on how to plan dives and deal with the physiological effects and challenges of deeper scuba diving. It will refine their compass navigation skills and help them better navigate using kick-cycles, visual landmarks, and time.

As for the remaining three specialty dives, the student has the freedom to choose which ones to pursue. You can choose from a PADI Aware Fish Identification Dive, Boat Dive, Digital Underwater Photography, Drift Dive, Enriched Air Dive, Peak Performance Buoyancy Dive, Search and Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, or Wreck Dive.
