Get to know the city that’s known for its food, fiestas, and culture in this half-day tour of Iloilo City. If you’re a history buff who also wants to try a city’s food and appreciate its culture, this trip is definitely perfect for you.

Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation within Iloilo City. On the way to your first destination, you will be briefed on the day’s itinerary and what to expect from each stop.

You will be given a running tour of the Millionaire’s Row of Jaro where you will see houses of the country’s richest families like the grand Nelly Garden of the Lopezes, the heritage houses of Sanson-Montinola and Ledesma, and the Lizares Mansion which is now an Angelicum School.

The first drop-off will be in the district of Jaro where you will find the Jaro Cathedral Church or the Church of St. Elizabeth of Hungary. It is an all-male church where you will find a collection of male saints inside. The only female among them is the statue of Nuestra Senora de Candelaria (Lady of Candles) that is perched on a glass shrine on the facade. The statue of the lady made from limestone is said to be continuously growing and that its container needs constant adjustment.

You will then head to Casa Mariquit, a well-preserved 216-year-old Spanish ancestral house that showcases Ilonggo architecture and the story of the Ilonggo old rich Javellana and Lopez families. Don’t forget to take pictures by its ventillanas (windows).

After which, you will get to enjoy a quick snack and pasalubong at the Biscocho Haus and a stroll at Esplanade before heading to a barquillo-baking activity at the Deocampos. From there, you will head to Calle Real next, a street named in honor of Dr. Jose Rizal, which is home to the province’s important building such as the Lacson Ancestral House and Masonic Temple.

You will also check out Fort San Pedro that protected Iloilo from the Moros and the Muelle Loney, as well as one of Iloilo’s most beautiful streets, General Luna. For lunch, you will be given a choice to either head to Breakthrough’s or Tatoy’s where you can enjoy the city’s local cuisine.
