Step back in time and get a chance to experience the vibrant heritage and culture of Laoag and Vigan with this family-friendly sightseeing day trip in Ilocos. If you are a history buff wanting to explore the historic cities, then this guided day tour is just what you need.

Your day starts when you are picked up by your guide from your accommodation in Laoag City. From there you will go to Malacañang of the North, a two-story mansion overlooking Paoay Lake. The mansion serves as the former home of the Marcos family, one of the biggest and well-known families in the country. Now a tourist destination, it features the programs of former Philippine president Ferdinand Marcos during his 20-year term. It has seven rooms, each one having its own theme.

From the mansion, you will head to Paoay Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and National Cultural Treasure. Its Baroque architecture has amazed numerous tourists since its construction back in 1710. After offering a short prayer at the church, you will learn more about the Marcoses at the Marcos Museum, located some five kilometers away from the church. This is where you will see the late president’s memorabilia and mausoleum.

Drop by the Museo Ilocos Norte next to learn about the northern part of the region. On display are items and exhibits showcasing the culture of the Ilocanos. You will then check out the unique Sinking Bell Tower afterward. Over a century old, this structure is a popular landmark in the region and known to sink an inch or so every year.

Two other interesting stops you will be visiting are the St. Williams Cathedral and Tobacco Monopoly marker before you head to Calle Crisologo in Vigan. This iconic street brings to mind the Spanish colonial era as its cobblestone streets are adorned with traditional Spanish houses. You will also have the opportunity to see Syquia Mansion, Pagburnayan Pottery Making, and Crisologo Museum before you make your way to Plaza Burgos. Here, you will get a glimpse of local life and have a taste of the delectable Vigan empanada. You will then end your day with a stroll around the Heritage Village.
