You need to be at the Lamitan Port by 8 AM. Your guide will meet you there and pick you up so you can begin your tour of Lamitan City. During your visit to the city, you can learn more about the Yakan tribe, which is considered the first inhabitants of the island of Basilan.

The first stop on this tour is the Wee Siu Tuy Memorial Hall. This building serves as Lamitan’s library and museum. It is named after the Chinese businessman who donated the building to the city. Inside, you will find artifacts and artwork that will help you learn more about the history and culture of the city and the Yakan tribe.

Next, you’ll head to the Lamitan Oval Public Market, where local delicacies are sold. You won’t just sample Yakan treats during your visit; you will also try your hand at making two of them. Jah is a rolled dessert made with flour and sugar, while panyam is the Yakan’s version of a pancake. You’ll continue to learn more about the Yakan tribe when you visit the Yakan Weaving Center. Here, you can see the locals in action as they weave tennun, a traditional cloth used to create Yakan dresses.

Afterward, you’ll head to Bulingan Falls. This 21-foot-high waterfall features a cascade where the water flows along several cube-like edges. You will continue with your tour of Lamitan’s outdoor attractions with a visit to the Tulip Garden. Here, you won’t find real tulips; instead, you’ll see thousands of plastic tulips in different colors made from recycled bottles. It was created as part of the efforts of the city to minimize its waste.

Next on your itinerary is the Rubber Tree Plantation. Rubber helped Basilan grow its economy, and a visit to this plantation in Lamitan will help you appreciate the significance of the trees to the island. Your last stops are the Pasalubong Center, where you can buy souvenirs to take home, the Lamitan Marker, and the Lamitan City Hall, where you can take photos before ending your tour.
