Description

Immerse yourself in Filipino arts and culture by taking this set of classes that will teach you about an ancient Filipino indigenous script, Filipino martial arts, Filipino values, and tribal dances, music, and weaves. This package comes with 4 60-minute sessions, all of which are taught by experts in their respective fields.

The class schedule for this package is flexible, so you can take your classes 4 days in a row, every other day, or once a week. Once you have decided on a schedule, a link to a Zoom meeting will be sent to you. You’ll have your online classes there.

Your first class is on the ancient Filipino indigenous script called Baybayin. It is a pre-colonial writing system that was used as early as the 16th century but was suspended when the Spanish colonized the country. Your instructor will teach you the basics of Baybayin, and by the end of the class, you should be able to spell simple words using the script.

In your 2nd class, you will learn about Filipino martial arts. Your instructor will teach you the basics of Arnis, Kali, and Escrima. You’ll learn basic strikes and combinations, as well as defense and empty hand movements.

For your third class, you will learn about Filipino culture and traits. This class will tackle the beliefs, traditions, and social customs of the Filipino people. Your instructor will introduce you to Filipino holidays and festivities, as well as virtues like pakikipagkapwa-tao, or relating to fellow human beings.

You’ll end your series of classes with a session on T’boli weave and dance. The T’boli is a tribe that, until several decades ago, was isolated from the modern world. Your pure-blooded T’boli teacher will introduce you to the musical instruments and dances of the tribe. You will also learn about T’nalak, the tribe’s sacred cloth.

Take 4 classes with this package and learn more about the arts and culture of the Philippines. Check the availability by choosing a date.
