Description

Cruise along the Abatan River in Bohol with this firefly watching tour inclusive of hotel pick up and drop-off, environmental fees, free use of sampan cruise, and services of a guide. This tour is perfect for those wanting to experience a wonderful night in Bohol while surrounded by a sea of fireflies.

Your guide will first pick you up at your accommodation within Panglao or Tagbilaran. Afterward, you will go to the 20 KM Abatan River in the town of Cortes, Bohol. At the moment,  this idyllic and charming river opens up to an estuary comprising of mangrove and nipa swamps. Its mangrove forests are one of the most diverse in the country, being home to approximately 32 mangrove species.

You will board a sampan, a homemade flat-bottomed Chinese wooden boat. From there, you will raft through the waters as you wait for the show to start. It is not long after the sampan departs that you will begin to see the riverside mangroves lighted by a dazzling display of firefly lights.

The chirping of crickets will be heard throughout the mangrove swamp as you paddle farther into the serene and quiet waters. Along the way, you will see the riverside communities that benefit from the waterways and protect the area that sustains its livelihood. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views, fresh air, and the unique opportunity of seeing these magnificent creatures come to life at night throughout the ride.

Take note that dinner before or after the cruise is optional and can be availed as an add-on. Enjoy the rest of the firefly-watching activity before you make your way back to your accommodation in Panglao or Tagbilaran.

Head over to Bohol and join this off-the-beaten-path excursion at Abatan River. Check availability by choosing a date.
