Zambales Province is home to breathtaking mountains and lush landscapes that draw in outdoor enthusiasts. One of its most challenging day hikes is the Cawag Hexa trail, a demanding yet rewarding adventure that takes you across multiple mountains, offering scenic views of the West Philippine Sea, verdant grasslands, and picturesque coves such as Talisayen, Anawangin, and Nagsasa.
This day hike includes round-trip transfers from Manila City, registration and environmental fees, the assistance of a dedicated tour guide, and a climbing certificate. You'll also enjoy some hiking freebies like the free use of GoPro8 and a drone, subject to availability, and a personalized bag tag as a souvenir.
This tour also offers one of the lowest rates available and does not require a minimum number of travelers to book.
The night before your day hike, you’ll be picked up from your chosen meet-up point in Manila City. Once your group is complete, you’ll begin your journey to Zambales Province.
Your day begins with a stop at the Subic Municipality Fire and Rescue Team headquarters for the initial registration. Afterward, you’ll head to the Cawag Resettlement Registration Center to meet your guide, who will accompany you throughout the Cawag Hexa day hike.
At the jump-off point, you'll receive a briefing and orientation before beginning your hike.
Your first summit is Mt. Balingkilat, the highest peak in the range. It known for its challenging trail lined with loose rocks and massive boulders. Once you reach the campsite, take a brief rest before making the final push to the top. At the summit, you’ll be rewarded with a breathtaking sunrise and panoramic views, a well-earned moment after conquering your first peak of the day.
From there, your journey continues to the summit of Mt. Bira Bira, known for its knife-edge ridges and narrow, technical trail. It demands focus and steady footing, with each step bringing you closer to stunning views of the surrounding mountain range.
Your next stop is Mt. Naulaw, considered one of the less demanding climbs in the Cawag Hexa loop. However, its open, sun-exposed trail can still test your endurance. At its summit, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the surrounding range and a clear sight of Mt. Dayungan waiting in the distance.
At Mt. Dayungan, the trail becomes more demanding, with steep ascents and exposed ridgelines that test your endurance. Despite the challenge, the summit offers a refreshing pause, surrounded by mountain slopes and views of the terrain you've already conquered. It’s a satisfying midpoint that reminds you of the adventure still ahead.
You’ll then ascend to the summit of Mt. Cinco Picos, where a stunning panorama unfolds. From the peak, you’ll be treated to sweeping views of Silanguin Cove and the rugged coastline of Zambales Province.
The final stretch leads to the summit of Mt. Redondo. While the hike is long, the rolling terrain is more forgiving compared to earlier climbs. At the top, you can take a moment to enjoy the sweeping views, snap a few well-earned photos, and reflect on the accomplishment of completing the Cawag Hexa hike before beginning your long descent.
After completing your hike, you’ll descend from the peaks and make your way back to the jump-off point, where you can freshen up and grab some snacks. From there, you'll begin the drive back to Manila City, with a stop along the way to enjoy a delicious dinner.
