Learn about the culture and heritage of Ilocos Sur with this sightseeing tour. This Ilocos Sur tour already comes with air-conditioned van transfers, the assistance of a tour guide, and hotel pick-up and drop-off from Vigan, Bantay, and San Vicente, so all you have to do is enjoy the tour.
You’ll be picked up at your hotel in Vigan, Bantay, and San Vicente in the morning. If you are staying in a different area, you need to meet up with your guide and driver at an agreed-upon spot. You’ll then head to your first stop, Sta. Maria. Here, you’ll visit the local producers of muscovado, balicucha, and sukang Iloko. Muscovado is a type of brown sugar that is stickier than regular. Balicucha is a sweet treat made from sugarcane juice. It can be eaten like candy or mixed into coffee or tea to substitute for sugar. Sukang Iloko is vinegar made from fermented sugarcane.
In Sta. Maria, you’ll get a glimpse of how these local products are made and maybe have a taste of them. You’ll also visit Sta. Maria Church, one of the four churches in the Philippines that UNESCO has deemed World Heritage Sites, thanks to their Baroque design.
You’ll have a meal at a local Ilokano restaurant at your own expense before heading to Calle Crisologo. In this iconic street in Vigan, you’ll see how locals weave looms and make Ilocos empanada. Traditional Ilocos weaving is a special process that involves beating the fabric with sticks to produce what is called inabel. Meanwhile, Ilocos empanada is famous for its unique orange and crisp shell.
Before you end your trip, you’ll drop by Cafe Leona where you’ll enjoy a meal of Ilocano Cuisine at your own expense. After you’ve had your Ilocos food trip, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel.
