Get your fix of an adrenaline rush when you go on this ATV ride through trails on the foot of Albay’s Mount Mayon. Apart from giving you breathtaking views of the volcano’s perfect cone, you will also be able to drive through different types of terrain and see the remains of a church that was destroyed and buried by the volcano’s lava. This day tour comes with free use of the safety gear and the ATV unit and the assistance of a guide.
This activity will last around 2 to 2.5 hours, and you can choose to do it any time between 7 AM and 5 PM. Remember to show up at the agreed-upon time to avoid being marked as a no-show. After arriving at the activity area, you need to register and sign a waiver before participating. Children 10 years old and below can back ride with an adult for free, and those aged 11 to 17 may be allowed to ride their own ATV if they show good driving skills during practice. Those aged 11 to 15 may also choose to back ride with an adult for a fee, but the total weight of both passengers must not exceed 100kg. For safety purposes, pregnant women are not allowed to join this activity.
Your guide will brief you on the safety guidelines that you need to follow during your ride. To ensure that you are capable of operating an ATV, you will be allowed to go on a practice drive. Once your guide thinks you have sufficient mastery of the vehicle, you will go out on the trail.
The route you’ll take is purely off-road, so be ready for a bumpy but exciting ride. You will pass through exclusive trails that will allow you to drive through different kinds of terrain, including curved rock paths, rivers, forests, quarry sites, and the roads of Barangay Banadero, Mi-Si, and Budiao. While in Budiao, you’ll visit the ruins of Budiao Church. It was built in 1798, but the 1814 eruption of Mount Mayon destroyed it, while subsequent eruptions buried it under lahar.
You’ll stop 6 kilometers away from the crater of Mount Mayon and see lava fields that are now lush with grass and other greenery. This spot will also give you amazing overlooking views of Legazpi City and other municipalities in Albay, including Daraga and Camalig. While sightseeing, you will also enjoy fresh coconut juice.
