Pamilacan Island

Pamilacan Island Bohol

Pamilacan Island in Bohol is known for its white sandy shores and crystal clear waters. It is a popular attraction for whale and dolphin sightseeing.

The island’s name is derived from the local word pamilac, which means harpoon, a large hook used by the islanders to capture manta rays, whales, and dolphins. However, since the provincial government has banned the fishing of endangered species, locals have focused on tourism as their main livelihood. They have prioritized protecting and caring for marine life at the Bohol Sea.

How to get there:

Situated about 23 kilometers east of Balicasag in the Bohol Sea, Pamilacan Island is accessible from Tagbilaran airport through the Loay boat station. It’ll take approximately 30-35 minutes to reach the island via boat from there. You can also join a day tour for a more convenient trip.

Once on the island, tourists will witness for themselves the rich marine life that Bohol has to offer, including whales, dolphins, and even sharks.

Best time to visit:

Pamilacan Island can be visited all-year-round, but it’s highly recommended to see the island from May to July, the summer season of Bohol.

Suppose you’re going to participate in a dolphin watching tour in Pamilacan Island. In that case, it’s best to embark on an early adventure between 6 AM to 8 AM as morning excursions tend to have a high probability of sightings.
