According to the latest Siargao news, Sugba Lagoon will be temporarily closed for one month, from January 10 to February 10, 2026, as part of its annual environmental rehabilitation program. This scheduled closure is mandated by Municipal Ordinance No. 045 of 2019, which declares a 32-day “Tourist Holiday” each year to help protect and preserve the lagoon’s fragile ecosystem.
“While Sugba Lagoon takes this break, tourists are encouraged to explore Del Carmen’s other attractions, such as Kawhagan Island, Pamomoan Beach, and the Mangrove Forest Boardwalk,” the Department of Tourism (DOT) Caraga Regional Director said in a statement on January 8, 2025.

The annual rehabilitation of Sugba Lagoon has been practiced since 2016 and plays a key role in its sustainable management. By giving the lagoon a chance to rest and recover from tourism pressure, the closure helps ensure that this iconic Siargao attraction remains pristine for future visitors.
Magpupungko Rock Pools
Rehabilitation schedule: January 19 up to February 19, 2026
