Battery Hearn, situated on Corregidor Island in the Philippines, was a significant coastal defense installation during World War II. It featured a 12-inch (305 mm) seacoast gun mounted on a barbette carriage, capable of a 360-degree traverse. This design allowed it to target enemy ships approaching from both the South China Sea and Manila Bay. The gun had an impressive range of approximately 29,000 yards (about 27 kilometers), enabling it to engage distant naval targets.
Constructed as one of the last fortifications on Fort Mills before the limitations imposed by the Washington Naval Treaty in the 1920s, Battery Hearn played a crucial role during the Japanese invasion in 1942. Despite its formidable capabilities, the gun's flat trajectory made it less effective against ground targets on the Bataan Peninsula.
