Perched at the heart of a forest in Sitio Lao in Malungon, the 73-hectare Retreat Complex operated by the Center for Community Transformation promises a serene and peaceful retreat experience for everyone.
Founded in 1991, the Center for Community Transformation is committed to alleviating the lives of poor communities throughout the Philippines. Started as a micro-financing organization that serves individuals and families, CCT now has 16 ministry cooperatives and NGOs that help change, strengthen, and empower underprivileged sectors such as street dwellers, out-of-school youth, farmers, fisherfolks, indigenous people, and the communities-at-large. Their programs include spiritual development, micro-financing, housing, insurance, social health, education, and cultural and heritage exposure from different places in the Philippines. The Malungon Retreat and Training Center is one of the community centers of CCT around the country. The 73-hectare center serves as a training facility for volunteers in Mindanao.
At the Malungon Retreat and Training Center, the preservation and promotion of local indigenous culture is a top priority. This commitment is evident in the center's architecture, which is crafted from traditional bamboo materials. Beyond its spiritual facilities, the retreat complex offers a range of activities for cultural immersion. Visitors can explore a model farm, where they can witness the traditional farming practices of the Blaan and Tagakaulo tribes. Additionally, the center hosts heritage immersions, showcasing the music, arts, and cuisines of these indigenous communities.
