Information about Lazi Convent

Lazi Convent

Lazi ConventThe Lazi Convent in Siquijor, located opposite the iconic San Isidro Labrador Church, is a cherished historical site. Constructed between 1887 and 1891 under the supervision of the Augustinian Recollects, it was initially intended as a retreat for priests and clergy. Built in a traditional Spanish colonial style, the convent's architecture is noteworthy; the ground floor is made of coral stones, while the upper story showcases local hardwood, embodying a fusion of Spanish design and Filipino craftsmanship. Covering approximately 42 by 38 meters, the convent is one of Asia's largest and oldest convent structures.

Declared a National Historical Landmark, the convent now houses the Siquijor Heritage Museum, preserving religious artifacts, old manuscripts, and other memorabilia that highlight its spiritual and cultural legacy. Visitors are welcomed to tour the building, gaining insights into the Spanish colonial influence on Filipino religious practices and architecture.

Best Time to Visit

Siquijor’s tropical climate makes it best to visit the Lazi Convent between November and May, during the dry season, to enjoy a comfortable, rain-free tour of the area’s historical attractions. Early mornings and late afternoons also provide cooler conditions for exploring both the convent and nearby sites like Cambugahay Falls and the Old Enchanted Balete Tree.
