Information about Macapagal-Macaraeg Ancestral House
Macapagal-Macaraeg Ancestral House
The Macapagal-Macarage Ancestral House in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte is where former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo grew up in. It was built in 1950. While her father, Diosdado Macapagal, was also a former president, the house was owned by her maternal grandfather but has been converted into a museum that is managed by the city. The National Historical Institute has proclaimed the house an official heritage house.
Inside the house, you’ll see items that were owned by the two former presidents, including pictures, paintings, sculptures, and other memorabilia. You can also visit a small playhouse where a young Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo used to play inside as a kid. Outside, you’ll spot statues of Diosdadao Macapagal and a young Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo bonding as she rides a swing.
