Nag-aso Boiling Lake

Nag-aso Boiling Lake is located in the municipality of Manito in Albay. Like its name suggests, the temperature in this lake can reach 100°C (212°F). Typically, though, the temperature ranges from 87°C  to 96°C (188.6°F to 204.8°F). The term “nag-aso” actually means “steaming” in the local language, and most of the time, you will see steam coming from the waters of the lake. You can actually boil eggs in the lake, and it will be cooked in around 10 minutes.

It is believed that the high temperatures of the lake are due to the ancient underwater volcano in the area. Because of the hot temperature of the lake, you won’t find any fish or other marine life here, and swimming is not allowed.

Tickets and entry

Visiting the lake is free, but visitors are responsible for their own safety during their visit.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit is during the dry but cool season in the Philippines, which usually falls from December to early February. This allows you to enjoy the steam coming from the lake.
