Ninoy Aquino Memorial Freedom Park

Named after the prominent Benigno Aquino Jr., Ninoy Aquino Memorial Freedom Park in Dumaguete serves as a good destination to relax, unwind, and take a break from extreme activities. The freedom park was built in honor of Ninoy Aquino, the late senator who was assassinated at the Manila International Airport upon arriving in the Philippines.

He has received various monuments and celebrations after his names, such as the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Ninoy Aquino Day, which is a non-working holiday; hence it is no surprise that a park found in Dumaguete is built after his name. Dotted with acacia trees, colorful flower beds, fountains, and a provincial capitol at the center, the park offers a peaceful ambiance to chill and relax away from the bustling city of Dumaguete.

People who have previously visited the place claim that the freedom park is the perfect spot for an early morning jog. Some also take their dogs for a walk or their families for a nice picnic by the grass. The park has a beautiful backdrop of the vibrant green and clean surroundings.

It also often hosts special events such as the awaited Buglasan Festival, but it is during the Christmas season when there are many events and activities that would take place in the park. It earned its name as a "freedom park" as Ninoy Aquino is known to have voiced out against injustice during the Marcos presidency. He has become one of the icons in the history of the Philippines, which explains why there are quite a number of landmarks and monuments named after him.

The freedom park welcomes people of all ages so if you are planning to spend a day out with your family and enjoy the serene ambiance, make sure to pass by while you are in Dumaguete.
