Virgen Dela Regla National Shrine

Cebu has always been known for the Santo Niño but there is another devotion that pilgrims visit through the years: Nuestra Señora De La Regla or Our Lady of the Rule. The name is believed to have originated from St. Augustine, who dedicated to her the rules he created for the members of his order to follow. The shrine and image of Virgen De La Regla is located in Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu.

The feast day of Our Lady of the Rule takes place every 21st of November. Cebuanos have been celebrating the feast day of the Virgin for more than 280 years. On that day, there will be a procession which also marks the first day of the novena Masses for Nuestra Señora De La Regla. The image will be transported via a motorcade to the Pacific Cebu Resort and will be placed in a vessel decorated with flowers, the same vessel used in Santo Niño’s annual procession during January.

How to get there

From the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, you can take any jeepney that includes the Cebu-Mactan Ferry Terminal in its route then get off at the Virgen Dela Regla National Shrine, which is only a few meters from the pier. Otherwise, you can rent a taxi or ride a private car directly to the shrine.
