Information about Balanacan Cove
Balanacan Cove
Balanacan Cove can be found in the province of Marinduque. The cove is secluded enough that during the 17th century, it served as a harbor where the Spanish Navy repaired and built ships. Several significant ships and vessels were constructed in the cove, including San Juan de Bautista and San Marcos.
The cove was also a site of a battle during World War II. In 1944, two Japanese warships were sunk by American bombers. The shipwrecks are still in the cove and are a favorite site for some advanced wreck divers.
Best time to visit
The best time to visit Balanacan Cove is during the dry months. For Marinduque, this can fall from January to May, but it can sometimes be shorter, so it’s best to check the weather forecast before your trip.
