Information about The National Museum - Marinduque-Romblon
The National Museum - Marinduque-Romblon
The National Musem of the Philippines - Marinduque is located in the municipality of Boac, in what used to be the oldest Catholic school in the province, Escuela de Niños. It features the history, culture, and heritage of not just Marinduque but also the province of Romblon. It is one of the tourist spots in Marinduque, and it also gives visitors a chance to learn about some of the tourist spots in Romblon.
There are three permanent exhibits in the museum: The Journey Towards the Protection of the Philippine Rise, Submerged History: The Marinduque Shipwrecks, and the Moryonan Art and Devotion.
Before the building was turned into a museum, it already had a storied history. In 1856, it was used as a prison and was also subsequently used as the tribunal of the Spanish government. In later years, it also became the office of the Department of Education - Division of Marinduque, as well as the Municipal Trial Court of Boac. It also once housed the Boac Municipal Library.
