Balingasay River

Balingasay River dubbed as Luzon’s cleanest river is a 7 km. long river fed by Quibuar Spring, Bolinao Falls and several other springs and creeks. Located 5.5 km. from the town proper of Bolinao, Pangasinan, the river is a two time winner of the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Award for inland bodies of water in the Ilocos Region. In 1994, the river is a recipient of the highly prestigious Wetlands Conversation.

The award-winning river is one of the most well maintained river in the Philippines with rich biodiversity. The 15 hectares of century old and new growth mangroves at Balingasay River is a protected area that support diverse life forms from fishes to migratory birds.

Aside from protecting the river from erosion and pollution, the mangroves and trees houses different species of birds, ducks, and monkeys. The river is where fresh water meets the sea water of the South China Sea; a perfect habitat for unique fishes, crabs, shrimps, and oysters. 


Things to do

The best way to explore the river is thru a cruise or by riding a floating kubo, pulled along by a banca, operated by the locals. Kayak are also advisable especially in the afternoon for a combination of a perfect view of the sunset and the river. 

The Balingasay River is also known for its floating restaurant where guests can dine in and enjoy Filipino homemade meals or variety of local delicacies and grilled seafood. 

Some of the things you can do at Balingasay River include bird watching. The place are also known for a best place in town to check out migratory birds and other wild species.

Bolinao, a third first class municipality in the province of Pangasinan has other scenic attractions aside from the Balingasay River such as the Cape Bolinao Lighthouse, Patar Whitesand Beach, and three waterfalls: Tara Falls, Bolinao 1 and Bolinao 2 Falls. Make the most of your visit by going to their well known caves: the Enchanted Cave, Wonderful Cave, and Cindy’s Cave.
