Information about Balingasay River
Balingasay River
Balingasay River, dubbed as Luzon’s cleanest river, is a seven-kilometer-long river fed by Quibuar Spring, Bolinao Falls, and several other springs and creeks. It is located 5.5 kilometers from the town proper of Bolinao, Pangasinan, and has been a two-time winner of the Gawad Pangulo sa Kapaligiran Award for inland bodies of water in the Ilocos Region.
This award-winning river is also one of the most well-maintained rivers in the Philippines with rich biodiversity, partly due to the 15 hectares of mangroves that line the river. The mangrove forests have also been recognized as a protected area to protect the fish and migratory birds that call the river and its surroundings home. The river is also where fresh water meets the seawater of the South China Sea, making it a perfect habitat for unique fishes, crabs, shrimps, and oysters.
Best time to visit
Since the best way to explore the river is by taking a cruise, it is recommended to visit the Balingasay River during the summer months of March to May.
