The surest way to enjoy Roxas City, Capiz, the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, is to have a taste of its fresh seafood in Baybay Beach. Located 3 kilometers away from the city, Baybay beach is a beach of fine, ebony sand facing the Sibuyan Sea, and is also known as La Playa de Roxas.
Because of its proximity to the city, Baybay beach is a default hangout of visitors and locals alike. It is an ideal place for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking, but most especially, eating. Along its stretch of the 7-kilometer shore are plenty restaurants that offer paluto, or grilling of freshly caught seafood, such as Diwal or Angel wings, a type of shellfish that resembles wings of an angel when opened. Not only is this beach a popular foodie destination, but its shore is also known to be rich in “margaha”, fine iron particles that locals collect with an ordinary magnet.
From the Roxas City Airport, tourists can get to the beach by riding a tricycle with a fare of P20 (shared trip) or P80 (special trip). It takes approximately 5-10 minutes to reach the beach from the airport.
