Fantasy World

A castle in the Philippines is almost unheard of, but situated in the hills of Lemery, Batangas, Fantasy World’s castle stands waiting to be explored, and was featured in the 2002 film Got 2 Believe and Fantastica in 2018. But, unlike the medieval castles we come to know of from Europe, the colors of the abandoned castle in Lemery is more reminiscent of Disney’s Cinderella’s castle, with a little bit inspiration from a Filipino church.

A bit of history

Fantasy World Lemery is abandoned. But don’t fret, it is still managed by the place’s current owners. The thirty-hectare area in Lemery, Batangas was chosen because of its mild climate and proximity to Metro Manila however, the project failed, even with the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT). It was supposed to be primarily a membership club, but the owner decided to develop the facility for providing and promoting recreational, athletic, social and cultural activities and was marketed mostly to residents from Metro Manila and southern provinces. Sadly, the place never saw its full potential due to the financial limitations of the owner.

Things to do

Apart from exploring, the place is also suited for a little bit of tranquil time, they even have a chapel. One of the most appealing part about this place is the Instagram-worthy scenery, both in the old-fashioned architecture and jarring landscape. You can even climb to the top of the main tower to see a picturesque view of the place and the land it overlooks. They also have a classical themed throne room, and even offer costumes for rent that is good for the day if you’re feeling a bit quirky. Lastly, a relatively new addition to the place is a hanging bridge that leads to a vantage point with a breathtaking view of Batangas’ landscape. This place will surely test your digital photography skills.
