Information about Jintotolo Lighthouse
Jintotolo Lighthouse
Jintotolo Lighthouse can be found in the municipality of Balud in the province of Masbate. It sits on the highest point of Jintotolo Island, a small island that can be reached by a half-hour boat ride from the Masbate mainland. To reach the lighthouse, visitors must take a 15-minute walk uphill.
The lighthouse itself was built during the Spanish colonial era, in 1895, and it is one of the 24 major lighthouses that was built during that period. It helps ensure safe passage for ships and boats that passes through the Sibuyan and Visayan seas. Although some parts of the lighthouse have been restored, visitors will still be able to see some of its original structures.
Best time to visit
Since you’d need to travel via boat to reach Jintotolo Island, the best time to visit Jintotolo Lighthouse is during the dry months. This usually falls from March to June.
