Josefa Llanes Escoda Monument
Located in Dingras, Ilocos Norte, the Josefa Llanes Monument is a monument honoring Josefa Llanes Escoda, a social worker who founded the Girl Scouts of the Philippines in 1940. She is also known as an advocate for the right of women to vote. Dingras is her birthplace.
The monument lists Josefa Llanes Escoda’s contributions to the history of the Philippines, noting that she was an educator, a heroine of World War II, and a martyr in Fort Santiago. The monument also used to feature a statue of Josefa Llanes Escoda wearing a green dress, a color often associated with her, being the founder of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines.
