Malcapuya Island

This white sand wonder called Malcapuya Island lies two hours from Coron city. It is part of the beautiful and largely uninhabited beaches of Coron. The other two are Bulog Dos Sandbar and Banana Island.

Privately owned, Malcapuya offers docking only its western beach. Visitors will proceed to travel to the southern coast. You'll first go up a trail under a cashew trees grove until the beach peeks through south. The hike takes minutes. This cove is the longest shoreline equivalent to Boracay Island's White Beach. It's also powdery-soft creamy sand. While it can get swellingly hot, there are a few huts and a line of coconut and palm trees for shade.

Over some meters, water stays shallow, ideal for long swimming. Some beach parts can be rocky, so wearing aqua shoes is still advisable. You can dive or snorkel 100 meters out and find a large coral bed with a variety of marine life, including giant clams and clownfish. If you want a panoramic view of the island, you should ascend a hill where you can also see nearby islands. This vantage point also reveals the abundant growth of corals around Malcapuya.

How to get there

Located just an hour from Coron town, Malcapuya is one of Culion's best beaches. It is often included in a Coron day escapade. Rent a boat or join a tour to get here. The boat trip can be challenging when you pass across Coron Bay, but the island's seas should be remarkably calm.

Best time to visit

Visit this attraction during the summer months in Coron for a better experience.
