La Immaculada Concepcion Church
Palawan is known for its many natural attractions, but it also boasts interesting historical and cultural landmarks, including the La Immaculada Concepcion Church in Culion. Built on top of a hill on the site of what used to be Fort Culion, the church is known for its red roof and upper walls that can be seen from afar. The ceiling inside has also been painted this distinct red color.
The church was built in 1933, with the walls and the watchtower of Fort Culion the only remaining structures from the fortress. From here, visitors can also enjoy beautiful overlooking views of the sea and the nearby islands.
Best time to visit
Make sure you find out ahead of time the mass schedule on the day of your visit. If you want to be able to explore the inside of the church, you want to avoid visiting when a mass is going on as you don’t want to disturb those who are attending.
