Sambawan Island

Sambawan Island in Leyte

Sambawan Island is a small uninhabited land just off the coast of the municipality of Maripipi in Biliran, Leyte. Many say it is the province’s paradise, as it boasts of its undeniable natural beauty that has been attracting hundreds of tourists these days and thus fast becoming the most go-to destination of visitors coming from in and out of the country.

Sambawan Island is a semi-curved beach that is made up of a chain of interconnecting islets surrounded by crystalline azure water. The two major islands of Sambawan are filled with towering rock formations and have a hilly terrain coated with green grass that offers a sweeping view of the magnificent seascape.

Planted along the coastline of the island are Talisay trees, which provide a pleasant shade to people visiting Sambawan. Unlike its nearby islands with powdery white sand, this island has tiny white pebbles and coral stones filling the extent of its shore.

Aside from the beach, Sambawan is popular for its abundant marine life. Underneath its pristine water is plenty of coral reefs and schools of fishes that are sure to catch the interest of snorkeling and diving enthusiasts.

Commercial buildings are slowly dominating this once unspoiled island. Cottages, rooms, and bathroom facilities are available here for a cost. Tent rentals are also offered in Sambawan for those who would like to stay and camp out.

Aside from camping, there are more fun activities to do while on the island. Tourists could rent a kayak and explore the whole place via water, or visit the dive camp and go scuba diving to meet the large variety of fish and corals underwater. Trekking is another thrilling activity visitors can try in Sambawan. Its hills offer a breathtaking view of the surrounding, perfect for photo-ops and relaxation.
