Sorsogon City

Sorsogon City is the capital of Sorsogon province. It is a relatively young city, having been only founded on August 16, 2000, thanks to Republic Act 8806, which merged the municipalities of Bacon and Sorsogon.

The city is home to several natural attractions, including Mount Pulog, Sorsogon Bay, Paguriran Beach, Tolonggapo Beach, and Bato Limestone Caves. It is also home to natural springs like Bucalbucalan, Alburo, and Suhi Springs.

The city is also rich in natural resources, including geothermal energy and limestone.

Best time to visit

Because many of its attractions are outdoors, it’s best to visit the city from March to May, the driest months. Keep in mind, however, that this season is also the peak season for local tourists.

Weather in Sorsogon City

While the city does experience rainfall and typhoons, most of the time, the weather here is sunny, especially during the dry months. If you want to visit when the temperature is at its coolest, schedule your visit sometime between December to February.

Peak Season in Sorsogon City

Many locals head to the beaches of Sorsogon during the months of March and April, but they don’t get as crowded as much as the more popular beaches in the country.

Main festivals/events in Sorsogon City

There are a couple of festivals that are held in Sorsogon City. The Kasanggayahan Festival, held in October, celebrates the founding of the province. During the last week of June, the Pili Festival is held in Sorsogon City. This festival honors the indigenous crop of Sorsogon.

How to get to Sorsogon City

If you are coming from Manila, you can reach the city via bus or plane. There are buses that go directly to Sorsogon City from the National Capital Region. Flying will be quicker, but there is no direct flight to Sorsogon City, and you’ll have to make your way to the Legazpi Airport in the neighboring province of Albay. The airport is around 60 kilometers away from the city, and the journey will take around an hour and a half.

Sorsogon City and the rest of the province are generally safe, but it doesn’t hurt to always be aware of your surroundings and be wary when engaging with strangers.

Getting around Sorsogon City

If you are driving to Sorsogon City, you can just use your vehicle to explore the city. Otherwise, you can take tricycles, jeeps, and taxis.

Food and Drinks

When in Sorsogon City, you should try all the pili nut delicacies that you can. These nuts are indigenous and abundant to the city and the province and have been turned into many dishes and delicacies by the locals. You can try roasted pili nuts, pili nut brittle, and Timitim, a dessert made with pili nuts, cassava, and coconut.
