Information about Tabaco Church
Tabaco Church
Officially called Saint John the Baptist Parish Church, this Roman Catholic church in Tabaco City, Albay was completed in 1879. Unlike most churches in Albay, the bell tower of Tabaco Church is separate from the main church building. In the past, it has also served as a watchtower to easily spot raiders coming from the sea.
It is also known for the mason’s marks found on its volcanic stone blocks, which are rarely found for buildings erected during the same period. Because of this, Tabaco Church was declared a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines in 2012.
Best time to visit
As it is an indoor attraction, the church may be visited year-round. However, note that while Tabaco Church is one of the tourist spots in Albay, it is a place of worship and holds regular mass, so remember to be respectful during your visit. Mass is held twice a day, except for Sundays, when there are eight scheduled services.
