Information about Alapad Rock Formation
Alapad Rock Formation
Alapad Rock Formation is among the most visited tourist attractions found in Batan Island in Batanes. Located in Uyugan, Batanes, this rock formation serves as one of the province’s iconic sites.
Alapad Rock Formation is an inclined rock facing the Pacific Ocean and was naturally carved by nature’s elements. Since it is strategically situated along the coastline of Imnajbu in Batan Island, it was formed out of the strong water current and tectonic movements.
It offers a sight of the Pacific Ocean and the seascape in general. Alapad Rock Formation features two rocks cut right down the middle, leaving some space in between that eventually turned into the island’s highway. On one side is a hill that serves as a view deck for visitors, while on the other side is a rocky beach.
The rock formation deck also offers a view of the LORAN (Long Range Aid to Navigation Station) constructed by the Americans in the 1960s for coastguard purposes and was eventually abandoned in the 1970s.
