Bell Church

Bell Church is a Taoist Temple that lies between Baguio City and La Trinidad, Benguet. It is considered to be the city’s hidden gem, as it is a lesser known landmark since the place is not a part of the usual itinerary offered by travel agencies.
The Bell Church boasts of the beauty of Chinese culture manifested in sophisticatedly designed structures and landscaped gardens. The temple eventually became one of the tourist spots as the years passed by, but the site is not as crowded and famous like Session Road, Burnham Park, Mines View, and the likes.
Locals and tourists can visit the site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There are no entrance fees needed, and since it is still a sacred place, guests are expected to give respect to the culture and traditions that the church represents. Moreover, taking pictures inside the temple is strictly forbidden.
The first thing that will welcome the guests as they enter the temple is the concrete stairs with undulating walls. Written on the walls are Chinese inscriptions. A koi pond will be the second to greet the visitors, where one can make a wish. The walkway leading to the church on top of a hill are marked with different Chinese markings, green-scaled dragon statues, and lions. Before reaching the main temple, you will have to pass not less than four ornate “paifangs” or Chinese gates.
At the center of an enclosure fronting the temple is a lotus pond, which is also used as a wishing well. Since it is a Taoist Temple, the place is mostly painted with red and a lot of dragons. On top of the temple are two dragons facing each other, with a bell placed between them. Multi-leveled pagodas stand on the small hills around the area, with green landscaped gardens surrounding them. Inside the main temple are several Taoist entities. Another notable thing about the place is that it gives a panoramic view of the houses perched on the nearby mountains and the glowing sunset in the afternoon.
