Canigao Island

Canigao Island, located in the town of Matalom, is one of Leyte's tropical paradises ideal for summer getaways. It is a small island that can be easily accessed by boat from the mainland. 
Being one of the developed islands in the area, tourists can find several facilities set up on Canigao Island. There is an information center, a treehouse, a couple of cottages, and grilling areas. Apart from those, locals and tourists alike would also enjoy the island's white sand beach lined by lush palm trees and blue waters. 
Aside from relaxing by the beach, travelers can also explore a lighthouse here that is considered to be one of the oldest lighthouses in Leyte. You can also wade into the waters to discover the diverse marine ecosystem underneath the waves, as the area is home to corals and different fish species. Other activities in Canigao include swimming, playing beach volleyball or Frisbee, fishing, kayaking, jet-skiing, and camping.

Best time to visit

As the island is a popular island-hopping destination, it's best to plan a trip here in the dry season (December to May), so you can enjoy the white sand beach and blue waters with less rainfall.
