Puerta Del Parian
Puerta Del Parian is among the eight gates that serve as an entrance to the Walled City of Intramuros. The gates were called Puerta, which is the original Spanish word for "gate." Hence, the name Puerta del Parian means "Gate of the Market," signifying its crucial role in Philippine history. From the Spanish colonial times to the British occupation is 1762-1764, as this was the place where many enterprising Chinese traded goods.
After the destruction of Puerta Real during the British Invasion In 1764, it became the official entrance of the Governor-General, and this was where the newly appointed Governor-General received the keys of the city from the Cabildo (a Spanish colonial administrative council). In 1945, the Parian gate suffered heavy damage from artillery during the Battle of Manila. Restoration works began in 1967 and were completed in 1982.
Aside from serving as one of the main entryways to Intramuros, Puerta Del Parian also houses a beautiful garden called Revellin del Parian Garden. In the middle of the garden, you'll find a small plaza that features busts of the five signatories of the Bangkok Declaration, which paved the way for the establishment of the ASEAN on August 8, 1967.
