Danjugan Island is a 43-hectare resort and wildlife sanctuary that sits off the southeastern coast of Negros Occidental. It features 5 lagoons, bat caves, limestone and mangrove forests, and fringing coral reefs teeming with marine life. Before becoming a wildlife sanctuary, the island was previously threatened by over-fishing. Since it was saved from overfishing by the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, Inc. and other organizations in 1994, the island has grown to be a thriving sanctuary.
True to its mission, the island has only developed less than 10% of the land for tourism while the rest are left untouched so the local flora and fauna can freely flourish. Among the many animals you can find here are white-bellied sea eagles, white-collared kingfishers, seahorses, lionfish, and more.
Visitors can go on guided day tours here to explore the island and try out different activities, such as kayaking, while learning about wildlife and conservation. If you wish to spend a night or two here, you can book a private room by the beach or stay in the shared open-air cabanas by a lagoon.
Best time to visit
To fully immerse in the open waters and lush forests of Danjugan Island, it's best to schedule your trip here during summer (March to May) so there are fewer chances of heavy rainfall.
