Information about Tayid Lighthouse
Tayid Lighthouse
Tayid Lighthouse is one the several beacons built in the island of Batan and one of the three operating lighthouses in Batanes. Located in the municipality of Mahatao, the tower is strategically situated on one of the hills found in the coast of the town as this faces the Pacific Ocean.
Many tourists consider it an 18th century tower, but by the early 2000s it was finally built. The Tayid lighthouse and the Basco and Sabtang lighthouses were suggested by the former member Butch Abad.Architecture.
Tayid Lighthouse is an octagon-shaped structure overlooking the ocean. The current Tayid lighthouse is actually the second one constructed. The original beacon is a 17th-century-old tower and was built close to the San Carlos Borromeo Church that is over two hundred years old. The former lighthouse was hexagonal in shape.
