Torrijos, officially a 3rd class municipality in Marinduque, had a population of 30,476 according to the 2020 census. Established on May 25, 1880, it became a parish on May 29, 1884. During the Philippine–American War, Torrijos witnessed the Battle of Pulang Lupa on September 13, 1900, where Filipino forces led by Colonel Maximo Abad defeated the Americans. 

The town was occupied by the Japanese in 1942, and in 1945, it was part of the Battle of Marinduque during World War II. Torrijos is 57 kilometers from Boac and is divided into 25 barangays.
