Laguna, historically known as La Provincia de la Laguna de Bay, is located in northern CALABARZON. Its name is taken from Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the Philippines that runs over the southeastern part of Manila, the Philippines' capital city. Laguna is a Spanish word that means a lagoon or a large body of water near a river.
The province is also the birthplace of Jose Rizal, the Philippine national hero. It is home to multiple national historical monuments, prime landmarks, Laguna resorts ranging from hot springs to lake resorts, and a variety of natural tourist attractions near Manila.
