Discover one of the natural wonders of Dumaguete by going on this whole-day private tour at Lake Balanan. As part of the tour, you’ll be treated to complimentary lunch and several other inclusions like van and banca (boat) transfers, entrance fees, and the services of a local guide.
Situated in the mountains of Siaton in the southern part of Negros Island, Lake Balanan is a peaceful, beautiful lake that lies approximately 285m above sea level. It has a peculiar shape that resembles the number eight (8), with the narrowest point where the two portions meet measuring only about 90m (300ft) wide.
Based on historical accounts, Lake Balanan was formed when the Sandulot Mountains collapsed in 1925 after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake. The disaster caused a block on the river streams of Balanan, giving rise to a dam that developed into a lake.
For the tour, you’ll need to ride a banca, which will bring you to the northern side of the lake where the waterfalls are. Other tourists from similar bancas will be making their way to the other side, too, so every now and then, you’ll see someone flashing a smile or waving their hands to your company.
At Lake Balanan, you’ll also be treated to a spectacular scenery of verdant hills, tropical rainforests, and massive balete trees, which is a favorite spot for tourists to take their pictures.
Unfortunately, you’re not allowed to dive into and swim in the lake due to the presence of electric eels. Don’t let this dampen your spirit though since your trip to the lake becomes all worth it with the multitude of wonderful sights that are waiting to greet you.
Chill out in a paradise-like getaway that is Lake Balanan during your Dumaguete trip with this tour. Check the booking availability by choosing a date.
